WWPD offers a wide variety of assignments, both full-time and collateral duties - to include, Patrol, Major Crimes Detectives, Computer and Cell Phone Forensics Detectives, Drug Detectives, Gang Detectives and Gang Enforcement Team, Career Criminal Apprehension Team, K9, Emergency Services Unit (SWAT and Crisis Negotiations), Firearms Instructors, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Field Training Officers.
The City of Walla Walla offers a very generous salary and benefits package. The current (2018) Officer salary range is from $62,352 to $86,892 annually. Premium pay is also given for Education (AA and BA), ESU members, Firearms Instructors, Bilingual in Spanish and Lead Officer Assignment. Medical, dental and vision coverage is paid at 90% by the City. The City also provides paid $50,000 term life/AD&D insurance. Officers also receive 112 hours of an annual holiday leave bank in addition to accrued vacation based on longevity as well as 8 hours of sick leave per month. The City also has a voluntary deferred comp matching plan with a 3% City match.
Officers are members of the Washington State LEOFF II retirement system.
