  • Demonstrates positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public
  • Serves as spokesperson for the Hampton Sheriff’s Office to the media and community at-large. All inquiries from the media shall be directed to the Community Relations/Public Information Officer, who will gather the information and, when possible, release it to the media
  • Contacts and informs the media regarding activities involving the Sheriff’s Office. Prepares all news releases and, after submitting them to Sheriff or his designee for approval, sends to various media outlets
  • Prepares brochures and information packets for use in informing public and private agencies and the general public of Sheriff’s Office activities
  • Photographs Sheriff’s Office events, preparing and releasing selected photographs to the media. Maintains a photograph catalogue, which can be used during presentations
  • Serves as liaison for scheduling facility tours, school visits and presentations. Makes presentations on Sheriff’s behalf to schools, churches and other organizations
  • Serves as coordinator for department’s Citizens’ Advisory Board
  • Prepares and edits all formal correspondence, i.e., letters, reports, memorandums, proposals, recommendations, etc., on the Sheriff’s behalf
  • Meets with public and private groups to explain Sheriff’s Office programs, procedures and operation of the department
  • Participates in discussions, seminars and other related events; cooperates as fully as possible with the media in releasing information to the public
  •  Performs workshops and training sessions for Sheriff’s Office employees, when applicable
  • Serves as point of contact for scheduling Sheriff’s Office Child ID events
  • Represents the Hampton Sheriff’s Office when directed by Sheriff
  • Directs special projects assigned by the Sheriff
  • Responsible for conducting vehicle inspections and reporting deficiencies              
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines and directives of the office on an ongoing basis
  • Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times
  • Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbal and/or writing
  • Disseminates information as it is given by the Department’s Administration
  • When applicable, commend and/or follow disciplinary actions for all deputy sheriffs
  • Follows all Federal, State and Local laws
  • Performs any other tasks as required
